Steve "Zetro" Souza was born on March 24, 1964 in Oakland, California — one of thrash metal's most distinct and celebrated vocalists. Souza first came to prominence with LEGACY (later renamed TESTAMENT), before joining EXODUS in 1986 as the replacement for Paul Baloff. With EXODUS, Souza's sneering, razor-edged delivery powered "Pleasures of the Flesh" (1987) and "Fabulous Disaster" (1989), two of the Bay Area thrash scene's essential albums. His confrontational vocal style perfectly matched EXODUS's aggressive, groove-driven thrash. After departing in 1993, Souza fronted various bands including DUKES OF THE ORIENT before rejoining EXODUS in 2014, recording "Blood In, Blood Out" (2014) and "Persona Non Grata" (2021). His return brought a renewed fire to EXODUS's live performances, proving his voice remains one of thrash metal's most powerful instruments.
