Seattle progressive thrash titans NEVERMORE released their sixth studio album, "This Godless Endeavor," on July 26th, 2005, through Century Media Records, with production by Andy Sneap. Rather than a strict narrative concept, the record moved topic to topic, with Jeff Loomis describing songs that allegorically addressed the loss of identity, oppressive systems, and the failures of organized religion. Warrel Dane's soaring, theatrical vocals paired with Loomis's virtuosic, technical guitar work to create some of the band's most celebrated material, including "Born" and the title track. Former TESTAMENT and DEATH guitarist James Murphy contributed a guest solo on the instrumental "The Holocaust of Thought." Widely regarded by critics as NEVERMORE's creative peak, "This Godless Endeavor" remains a landmark of 2000s progressive metal, showcasing a band operating at the absolute height of its musicianship and songwriting ambition.
