BORKNAGAR are a Norwegian progressive Viking/folk/black metal band from Bergen, formed in 1994. Founded by guitarist Øystein G. Brun with a revolving door of Norwegian metal luminaries — including ICS Vortex, Vintersorg, and Lazare — they have created one of black metal's most musically adventurous catalogues. Their sound merges Viking and black metal roots with prog rock ambition, cosmic themes, Scandinavian nature, and philosophical reflection. Signed to Century Media, BORKNAGAR are one of Norway's most consistently creative and beloved metal exports.
