BURZUM

BURZUM is the influential and deeply controversial one-man black metal and ambient project of Norwegian musician Varg Vikernes, created in Bergen in 1991. Despite Vikernes's imprisonment for murder and arson — and his subsequent extreme right-wing ideology — the early BURZUM recordings are widely regarded as defining documents of Norwegian black metal, blending icy atmospheric riffs with minimalist ambient passages rooted in Norse mythology, folklore, and dark philosophy. Released on Byelobog Productions, the project's later output continued in ambient and pagan directions. BURZUM's musical legacy remains among black metal's most discussed and debated.
