DESPISED ICON are a Canadian deathcore band from Montréal, formed in 2002. Pioneers of the deathcore genre, their blend of brutal death metal technicality and hardcore breakdowns helped define the style's early parameters. After a hiatus they reunited and signed to Nuclear Blast, releasing a compelling comeback album. Their lyrical themes shifted from misanthropy and anti-capitalism to explorations of madness and society. DESPISED ICON remain one of the founding acts and enduring standard-bearers of deathcore.
