IN FLAMES are a Swedish melodic death metal band from Gothenburg, formed in 1990. Along with DARK TRANQUILLITY and AT THE GATES, they are one of the three founding acts of the Gothenburg melodic death metal movement. Their early trilogy — "The Jester Race", "Whoracle", "Colony" — are genre masterpieces. Their subsequent evolution into a more accessible alternative rock and metalcore direction divided fans but expanded their commercial reach enormously. Signed to Nuclear Blast, IN FLAMES remain one of the most commercially successful European metal acts, continuing to tour globally.
