LYCANTHROPY

LYCANTHROPY

And here comes another Ind's interview taken in 2001 for POETIC 'zine. LYCANTHROPY is not that famous yet can be called a promising band. Let's check out what they have got to tell us.

Ind: I'll begin with a standard question — please introduce your band.

Jeff: The story is short. We're former classmates. We got together with some experience from different bands and eventually realized that we suit each other perfectly. After half a year of practicing in a garage, by summer 2001 we decided to record something. And we were quite satisfied with the result. We've also lost our bass player, which has affected our plans.

Ind: Your band is called LYCANTHROPY, and I was expecting to hear something different — closer to SIX FEET UNDER, of course. That was my personal expectation. In reality, you're playing thrashy death metal that's even a bit jolly sometimes!

Jeff: If we were called SCHIZOPHRENIA, would you be expecting early SEPULTURA? (Why not! - Ed.) I named my band without knowing about the SIX FEET UNDER track, so we have nothing in common.

Ind: Judging by the track titles, you deal with bloody topics...

Jeff: Have a look at our lyrics.

LYCANTHROPY

Ind: Are you going to release your debut? The sound quality isn't that great.

Jeff: We're not planning to release it because it's too short. In fact, we have 7 more songs.

Ind: Do you play gigs?

Jeff: Not right now. It's impossible without a bass player, and we can't find a good one.

Ind: They say the good death metal days are gone.

Jeff: We can't play anything else. At least not right now.

Ind: How would you respond to the phrase "russian death metal band"?

Jeff: Nationality shouldn't intersect with music. Any band should strive to play professionally and flawlessly, and that way they can earn worldwide respect. Too often, russian bands are far from being professional, and that's the reason they get no recognition.

JeffInd: Do you have big expectations? What are you striving for?

Jeff: We're striving for quality. Our expectations are vague. As you can see, we're morbid enough!

Ind: Do you enjoy taking part in tributes?

Jeff: It's a good habit of ours.

Ind: Do you have good relations with NECROPSY?

Jeff: Yes, quite good. It's hard to be alone, you know.

Ind: Thanks a lot — wishing you to stay brutal, of course.

Jeff: Thanks to all our supporters and fans. Thanks for the good reviews and merciless criticism.
