As it turned out, tensions arose during soundcheck between BLIND GUARDIAN and THERION over the headliner role at the festival. Since BLIND GUARDIAN were the official headliners, they refused to lend their drum kit to the Swedes or move it from its designated position. As a result, THERION were forced to set up their equipment in front of BLIND GUARDIAN, causing the stage to lose several more square meters of free space. The Germans explained their "demand" by saying that moving the drums could alter their sound compared to the soundcheck. Due to these technical complications and the stage not being ready, not only was the CATHARSIS performance canceled, but the PAIN concert was also put in jeopardy. Fortunately, the problems were resolved and the festival went ahead — albeit with a four-hour delay.
