Melvins and NAPALM DEATH — two of the most influential bands in extreme heavy music, operating on very different frequencies — have announced a collaborative split release titled Savage Imperial Death March, due April 10. The announcement comes with the shared track "Rip The God," a lurching, grinding piece that somehow sounds exactly like both bands simultaneously.
The pairing makes a certain perverse logic: both bands trace lineages to the most abrasive corners of punk and metal, and both have been releasing music with zero regard for trends for over three decades. Melvins' Buzz Osborne and NAPALM DEATH's Barney Greenway have spoken admirably of each other in interviews for years.
Savage Imperial Death March will be released on vinyl and digital formats. Pre-orders are live now.
