DEVIN TOWNSEND Explains "The Moth" Three-Part Structure: "Each Disc Is a Different Emotional State"

Following the announcement of The Moth and its first single "Enter The City" yesterday, DEVIN TOWNSEND has expanded on the record's structure in a new interview, shedding light on the three-part deluxe architecture that frames the project.

"Each disc is a different emotional state," Townsend explained. "The first is the conflict and the journey — that's The Moth proper. The second, The Afterlife, is what happens when you strip the noise away and sit only with the orchestral and choral elements. It's quieter and in some ways more terrifying. The third, The War, is the live recording from the Netherlands last year — and that was when everything finally made sense to me."

Townsend also addressed the decade-long delay in the project's completion, attributing it to the sheer logistical complexity of coordinating choirs and orchestras across multiple countries while managing his other musical commitments.

The Moth is due May 29 via InsideOut Music. Steve Vai, Anneke van Giersbergen, and Mike Keneally feature on the record.
