CHILDREN OF BODOM Reunion — Will More Shows Follow Helsinki Triumph?

The question on every melodic death metal fan's lips has a cautiously optimistic answer: more CHILDREN OF BODOM reunion shows are being actively discussed following the overwhelming success of the February 26-27 performances at the legendary Tavastia Club in Helsinki. Billed as "A Celebration of Music" in honor of late vocalist and guitarist Alexi Laiho, who passed away on December 29, 2020 at the age of 41, the two sold-out nights have proven to be far more than a one-off tribute.

Samy Elbanna, frontman of Finnish thrashers LOST SOCIETY, filled the impossibly large shoes of Laiho on vocals and guitar, delivering performances that were praised by fans and critics alike as respectful yet electrifying. He was joined by the reunited classic lineup: Alexander Kuoppala on guitar, Henkka Seppala on bass, Janne Wirman on keyboards, and Jaska Raatikainen on drums. An empty microphone stand adorned with flowers stood at center stage throughout both nights — a poignant tribute to the irreplaceable Laiho.

Full-set videos from both evenings have since accumulated millions of views on YouTube, with fans worldwide expressing both gratitude and desperate pleas for more shows. The performances were organized with the full blessing of the Laiho family, a detail that lent the reunion an emotional weight beyond mere nostalgia.

Sources close to the band have confirmed that the overwhelming fan response has "sparked serious conversations about further shows," with European festival appearances in summer 2026 being the most likely next step. Raatikainen addressed the speculation in a social media post: "We went into this to honor our brother. What happened on those two nights was beyond anything we expected. We owe it to Alexi and to the fans to at least consider what comes next."
