MARDUK have streamed a special 30th anniversary live performance of their 1996 album "Viktoria" via their official YouTube channel, the stream running simultaneously on March 10 at 20:00 CET for a global audience that reportedly peaked at over 85,000 concurrent viewers — a remarkable figure for a black metal band and a testament to MARDUK's enduring global popularity.
The performance was filmed at Södra Teatern in Stockholm on February 28 and features the current MARDUK lineup of vocalist Mortuus (Mats Björkman), guitarist Morgan Håkansson, bassist Devo Andersson, and drummer Fredrik Widigs performing the complete "Viktoria" album in sequence, followed by a 40-minute set of additional MARDUK classics drawn from across the band's extensive catalog. The production was elaborately staged, with lighting design by MARDUK's longtime visual collaborators and an enormous black MARDUK banner backdrop that recalled the visual aesthetic of their early 1990s touring presentations.
"Viktoria," released in 1996, is widely considered one of the most important and uncompromising albums in the Swedish black metal canon — a relentless, punishing record that established MARDUK as one of the premier black metal acts of the era alongside DARK FUNERAL and SETHERIAL. Morgan Håkansson noted in a brief pre-show interview that the anniversary performance was intended to honor the album's legacy while demonstrating that MARDUK's commitment to the black metal aesthetic remains absolute in 2026. The stream will remain available on YouTube for 30 days before being archived. A live album recording of the performance is also expected.
