AMORPHIS have released the official music video for "The Lantern," taken from their fifteenth studio album 'Borderland,' out via Reigning Phoenix Music since September 2025. The clip brings to life one of the album's most atmospheric moments, tracing a nocturnal journey along Tuonela's mythic black river from Finnish folklore.
Guitarist Esa Holopainen spoke about the track: "The song has a strong atmosphere and cinematic storytelling. It plays with classic elements, and you might even catch influences from Vangelis. Tomi Joutsen did an incredible job throughout the whole album, and on 'The Lantern' you can really hear how the vocals beautifully carry the song's dramatic arc. The working title was 'Jore' — those who know, know."
Holopainen added: "The atmosphere on 'The Lantern' is dramatic and evocative. From sonic depth to live energy, you can hear the emotional arcs and see them on stage in every frame." The video weaves together performance footage and visual storytelling into what the guitarist describes as "a visual odyssey."
'Borderland' was recorded at Hansen Studios in Ribe, Denmark with producer Jacob Hansen — the first collaboration between AMORPHIS and the acclaimed producer. The album is widely regarded as one of the strongest entries in the band's 35-year catalog, praised for its melodic depth and narrative ambition. The cover artwork was designed by Dutch illustrator Marald Van Haasteren, known for his iconic work with METALLICA, BLACK SABBATH, and KVELERTAK.
AMORPHIS have a packed summer schedule ahead, with festival appearances across Finland, Romania, Czech Republic, Germany, Belgium, and the Netherlands, followed by dates in Japan, Australia, and a Latin American tour leg.
