Jay Weinberg has opened up about his sudden departure from SLIPKNOT, nearly two and a half years after being dismissed from the band he served for a decade. Speaking publicly, the drummer described the firing as completely unexplained and said the confusion has not faded with time.
Weinberg joined SLIPKNOT in 2013, replacing founding drummer Joey Jordison. Over the following ten years, he contributed to the band's relentless touring schedule and appeared on several studio records. His final performance came at the Hell & Heaven festival in Mexico on November 3, 2023. Two days later, he received a phone call from the band's manager notifying him of the decision.
"It came without an explanation, with no reason," Weinberg said. "It was confusing then. If I'm perfectly honest, it remains confusing."
He revealed that just twenty minutes after that phone call ended, SLIPKNOT posted a public statement about his dismissal — before he had time to process the news himself. He described the moment as his world "just kind of bottoming out from under me," having devoted himself entirely to the band despite what he called a "volatile" and "dark environment."
Weinberg suggested he may have become a scapegoat for internal tensions between long-time members that predated his tenure. SLIPKNOT went on to recruit former SEPULTURA drummer Eloy Casagrande in February 2024. Meanwhile, Weinberg has remained active within the music community, though he has not announced any new permanent project.
The drummer's candid reflection underscores a persistent pattern within SLIPKNOT: dramatic personnel changes carried out without public explanation, leaving fans and former members alike searching for answers.
