Mesopotamian metal architects MELECHESH have released their new digital EP, "Sentinels Of Shamash", today via Reigning Phoenix Music — the label that also recently signed NEVERMORE. The three-track release marks the Jerusalem-founded, Amsterdam-based band's first new material in several years and signals a creative resurgence under their new label partnership.
The EP was preceded by the single "Raptors Of Anzu", accompanied by a striking lyric video. Drawing from ancient Mesopotamian mythology, the track depicts a cosmic conflict between divine forces through thunderous blackened death metal soundscapes, incorporating the band's signature Middle Eastern scales and ritualistic rhythmic patterns alongside the characteristic ferocity that has defined their approach since the early 1990s.
The full "Sentinels Of Shamash" tracklist comprises three songs: "The Seventh Verdict", "In Shadows, In Light", and "Raptors Of Anzu". The release represents MELECHESH in full command of the style they pioneered — what the band has long described as "Mesopotamian metal", rooted in black and thrash metal with deep draws from Sumerian and Babylonian mythology.
Regarding the new label partnership, MELECHESH stated: "We're proud to have signed with Reigning Phoenix Music, a label run by true fans who deliver professionalism and a personal touch." The label representative echoed the enthusiasm: "It is an honor to be part of the next chapter of MELECHESH. They are a band that continues to push boundaries."
The band have confirmed plans to perform live in support of the EP and to continue developing new album material.
