ROTTING CHRIST's fifth studio album, Sleep of the Angels, will receive a long-overdue vinyl reissue on June 19 via Season of Mist. Originally released in January 1999 on Century Media, the album represents the furthest point the Greek duo have ever traveled from their black metal origins — a record defined by melodic weight, brooding atmosphere, and a dark romanticism entirely its own.
The reissue arrives on standard black 12" vinyl in gatefold, alongside a limited gold 12" vinyl with black splatters in gatefold for collectors. Spanning ten tracks and just over 41 minutes, Sleep of the Angels remains one of the most internally coherent records in ROTTING CHRIST's extensive discography. The interplay between Sakis Tolis's heavily chorded guitar work and the constant, gauzy keyboard presence lends the album an almost ecclesiastical quality that remains striking nearly three decades later.
Tracks like the title song, "You My Flesh," and "Among Two Storms" demonstrate the pair's gift for combining gothic heaviness with genuine melodic sophistication. Sleep of the Angels has been long unavailable in physical form at a reasonable price, making this Season of Mist pressing particularly welcome. Pre-orders are now available via Season of Mist's webstore.
