Unreleased TYPE O NEGATIVE Track From 'October Rust' Sessions Unearthed by Drummer

TYPE O NEGATIVE drummer Johnny Kelly has made a remarkable discovery: an unreleased song from the recording sessions of the band's classic 1996 album October Rust. Kelly stumbled upon the track while digging through a collection of old cassette tapes.

"I dug up a whole bunch of cassettes recently and I found a lot of stuff — demos," Kelly revealed. "I actually found a song that we never used." The track was considered for October Rust during the original sessions but ultimately not included, with parts of the material later repurposed for the band's 2003 album Life Is Killing Me.

The drummer now believes the song is strong enough to see the light of day as a bonus track, provided a quality audio transfer and mastering from the original cassette can be achieved. The timing could not be more fitting: 2026 marks the 30th anniversary of October Rust, and the surviving members already have a live album and a commemorative box set lined up for release later this year or in early 2027 through Nuclear Blast Records.

TYPE O NEGATIVE disbanded after the sudden death of their iconic frontman Peter Steele in April 2010. October Rust — a masterwork of gothic metal atmosphere and dark romanticism — remains one of the most treasured albums in the genre, home to classics like "Love You To Death," "My Girlfriend's Girlfriend," and "Be My Druidess." The prospect of unheard material from those sessions will undoubtedly thrill legions of devoted fans.
