After the somewhat raw but very promising "Somnium Obmutum," comes the second and final album from the talented musician Matthias Kogler and a host of session players, in which everything best from the debut has crystallized, augmented by those seemingly inconspicuous yet absolutely essential ingredients — professionalism and sincerity.

A Sombre Dance is an exquisite neoclassical gothic doom record with subtle medieval motifs framed by the tracery of acoustic guitars and lute, adorned with the ornamental flourishes of cello and piano. All these delights rest upon a metal foundation featuring tender female vocals alongside two male vocal styles — screaming and growling.

A very pleasant, cohesive, and harmonious album — a must-have in the collection of anyone who appreciates this kind of music.
