I wasn't really looking forward to EVERGREY's 5th studio album anymore, after The Inner Circle didn't entirely win me over.

No, it was undeniably good, but compared to the consistent and very strong In Search of Truth and the simply strong Recreation Day, it came across as somewhat overloaded, overcomplicated, and a bit tedious. Although, I must admit, that's my subjective opinion — I was still very much into "I'm Sorry" and "Faith Restored." But after these retrospective remarks, let's turn to the new creation. On Monday Morning Apocalypse, EVERGREY became simpler and more accessible. Using all the same expressive tools but simplifying the arrangements, the Swedes produced highly dynamic and driving material. I've always loved this band for their dense guitar sound, emotional vocals, virtuoso solos, and excellent melodic sense. All of the above is presented on this album in the best proportions. There isn't a single filler track here — each one is interesting, compelling, and comprehensible from the first listen. Dynamic heavy hitters give way to measured, heavy semi-ballads and calm piano compositions like "Till Dagmar" and "Closure." The very strong and varied material presented on Monday Morning Apocalypse shows that we need not worry about EVERGREY's future.
