A young French death metal brigade on a young French label has released their debut album "Synthetically Revived." They play in a style whose boundaries were clearly defined some 10 years ago, and creating something new within it is an extremely difficult task. But KABBAL aren't really trying to play with extreme technicality, extreme brutality, or extreme speed. They simply prepare their meat dishes using long-established recipes: American bloody steaks with Florida-style MORBID ANGEL sauce, SUFFOCATION-style New York cutlets, chops with savory DEATH and ATHEIST seasoning. And there are no frog legs here -- only natural meat products: hooky riffs, healthy growling, a bulldozing bass, and armor-piercing drums.
Overall, the release makes a very positive impression, and as a debut -- even more so. And if "Synthetically Revived" doesn't push the boundaries of the style, it certainly adds to the diversity within the realm called death metal.
