The musicians probably didn't think long about the album title -- they named the demo after their two tracks: "Painted Veil." Simple and tasteful.
First, I want to say that I was simply bewildered after listening to this album. The impression is ambiguous: the band mixed in too much, everything sounds too disjointed, there's no monolithic quality to the music, and the overall musical picture is practically absent. But let me take it in order.
It's simply impossible to pin down the band's style definitively. There are elements of death metal, thrash, the music isn't devoid of a progressive component, but for the most part it's something like pop-rock. Now imagine mixing SLAYER, DARK TRANQUILLITY, and something like THE CARDIGANS (only with male vocals), AUDIOSLAVE, or AVRIL LAVIGNE, while alternately adding and removing elements of genuinely heavy music from the overall pop-rock blend. As for the vocals -- it's a circus. Just imagine the transition from very soft male vocals in the spirit of pop performers to insane growls or horrendous screaming. A circus, nothing more to say!
Regarding recording quality, there are no complaints here -- everything is simply superb, all instruments are clearly defined. On that count, full marks!
As a conclusion, I'd like to say the guys need to decide which path they're going to take: heavy music or mainstream.
