What beautiful paintings the Slovaks have used in the artwork for their album! Not quite Shishkin, but close. Just picture a forest shrouded in mist, all in grey-blue tones. It exudes mystery. This full-length can't exactly be called new — it originally came out back in 1996, but in 2003 it was remastered, supplemented with two tracks from the "Cuckoo" EP, and sent for a reprint. And rightly so. On the whole, the press release presents it as death metal. But this death metal is far from simple. Yes, the foundation of the songs is undeniably the lethal strain of extreme music, but here you also get the hazy guitars and blast beats of black metal, thrash-driven intensity, and excellent solos. Moreover, the music is not devoid of atmosphere, conjured by the keyboards. The growl truly sounds like the cry of a person lost in the forest, or the howl of a wounded beast. Answering the growl is the clean voice of a young man. Indeed, only lunatics could pull off something this elaborate — lunatic gods, at that. A blend of chaos and harmony!
