The well-known hardcore formation PRO-PAIN had never covered songs by their favorite (or maybe not-so-favorite, heh) bands throughout their career. And so the brave American foursome decided to record an entire album of "remakes." Popping the disc into the appropriate device, I started hitting the "next song" button, sampling 10-20 seconds of each track. I stopped at track 4, hearing familiar groovy riffs. It's the immortal hit Refuse/Resist! Whose hit? No, aren't you ashamed?! Quick, go take a lecture on the history of '90s metal!!! Since both bands are close musically, the cover is very faithful to the original. The other songs I hadn't heard in their original versions sound interesting :). Gary Meskill tries to sing in the style of the vocalists whose songs PRO-PAIN are performing (within certain limits, of course). I can't judge how well it worked on every track, but I can definitely say it about the MOTORHEAD classic Iron Fist. Among metal bands featured on this covers collection, CELTIC FROST also makes an appearance; the rest is hardcore and punk. I really enjoyed the fun-filled Terpentin (BOHSE ONKELZ), performed in the original language — German. For each song in the booklet, you'll find a brief backstory of vocalist Gary's (he chose almost all the songs) introduction to each respective band. The disc will be of interest to PRO-PAIN fans and cover enthusiasts, of whom there are quite a few, I imagine.
