Lately, more and more bands have been emerging that play modern styles of heavy music (I mean nu-metal and other recent trends in metal and core). And this time, a disc from a young (relatively speaking — the band's history goes back to 1995, but over the years the group went through three breakups and three reformations with new members, so let's call them young), yet promising Italian band REEL FICTION arrived for review! Although I'm not a huge fan of the latest trends in heavy music, I'll try to give the most objective assessment of this album — or more precisely, this EP.
Musically, the disc is an original blend of nu-metal and pop-rock, with some common musical ground shared with LACUNA COIL, FLOWING TEARS, and even EVANESCENCE, though the pseudo-gothic element is absent. While the music is similar to the aforementioned bands, it's more energetic — I'd say it has more groove — and is in no way oppressive.
As for the performance itself, there's nothing particularly outstanding here — the music doesn't stand out for its technicality, but you can feel that these guys have been playing for quite a few years. The recording quality is also at a high level — all instruments are recorded excellently. For an EP, I'd say it's excellent!!!
Well, that's basically all there is to say about this release. I think this band will find many fans, so I recommend this release to all lovers of modern trends in heavy music — I don't think you'll be disappointed!!!
