It's very strange that SECRET DISCOVERY are so completely unpopular here, with only one — their latest album "Alternate" — released on license. After all, the band has existed since 1989, and the album in question is already their eighth (!!!) in total. For my part, I'm personally filled with pride that my acquaintance with these German gothic metallers took place back in 1996, with the album "Question Of Time." Unfortunately, aside from that album, I haven't heard anything else from the band's catalog. As was to be expected, over ten years the Germans' style has undergone significant changes. The raspy intonations have disappeared from the vocals, the music has shed all its doom-adjacent qualities and now represents wide-screen, hit-oriented gothic rock with synthetic embellishments and industrial guitars. Analogies with the pillars of the German quasi-gothic scene come to mind — Zeraphine, their predecessors Dreadful Shadows, and the Norwegians Zeromancer. And one of the tracks, specifically "The Same Way," even evoked pleasant associations with the unforgettable Irish band U2. One can only hope that the "SECRET DISCOVERY" will soon become common knowledge, and through the efforts of local labels, the entire back catalog of this very decent band will be released.
