Night... silence... the forces of darkness have engulfed the earth... the atmosphere is charged to its limit, and a distant crack of lightning slices through the stillness... yes, it has been shattered — nothing remains to suggest that just a minute ago, peace reigned here. In the distance, the clatter of hooves. A nocturnal wanderer, a fearless horseman, gallops this way without sparing his steed, and suddenly...! That is the scene that unfolds before your eyes upon hearing the first notes. Widdershins is a stylistically diverse album — a smooth gradient from folk to melodic black metal. It's worth noting that these two concepts, united as one, create the band's distinctive signature, which won't be hard to pick out among the multitude of other groups. It's rather difficult to find a common denominator for the lyrical themes of WOLFSANGEL, but at its core the foundation rests on motifs of ancient Slavic tales (rendered in English) with certain injections of contemporary dark poetry. In addition to the quality musicianship, one should also credit the fairly original album packaging — the lyrics are presented as ancient manuscripts, each one corresponding to a separate song.
