The first trailer for "Into The Void: Life, Death & Heavy Metal," a new eight-part docuseries premiering on Hulu on September 22, has been unveiled to considerable excitement from the metal community. Created by Jason Eisner and Evan Husney, the minds behind the critically acclaimed "Dark Side Of The Ring" wrestling docuseries, the project promises the same unflinching, deeply researched approach to storytelling that made their previous work essential viewing.
The series explores the epic struggles, personal tragedies, and cultural impacts of heavy metal's most compelling and controversial artists. Episodes cover stories involving OZZY OSBOURNE's legendary guitarist Randy Rhoads, whose death in a 1982 tour bus incident remains one of the genre's most devastating losses, as well as PANTERA's Dimebag Darrell Abbott, who was murdered onstage in 2004 in one of the most shocking events in music history.
Additionally, the docuseries will chronicle the life and legacy of DEATH's Chuck Schuldiner, widely recognized as the godfather of death metal, whose battle with cancer cut short one of metal's most brilliant creative minds. THE PLASMATICS' Wendy O. Williams, whose confrontational performance art and eventual suicide made her one of the most tragic figures in heavy music, also features prominently. The infamous 1991 JUDAS PRIEST trial in Reno, Nevada, where the band was accused of embedding subliminal messages in their music that allegedly drove two young men to attempt suicide, will be examined alongside lesser-known tales from the metal underground.
The trailer showcases archival footage, new interviews with surviving band members and witnesses, and the kind of careful narrative construction that Eisner and Husney have become known for. Given the enduring popularity of "Dark Side Of The Ring," expectations are high that "Into The Void" could bring metal's untold stories to a mainstream audience in a way that respects the genre's history and complexity.
