Swedish melodic death metal pioneers DARK TRANQUILLITY are in full creative mode, working on the follow-up to their 2024 album Endtime Signals, vocalist Mikael Stanne confirmed in a new interview at Rock Hard Festival 2026 in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.

Speaking with Rock Hard magazine journalist Marcus Schleutermann, Stanne revealed that the writing process has been underway for several months. The band aims to finish the record by the end of 2026, with a release window targeting late summer or autumn 2027.

"It's super exciting. I can't wait," said Stanne, offering a glimpse of the creative energy that has propelled one of Sweden's most revered metal exports for over three decades.

The songwriting process is collaborative, as it has always been for the Gothenburg veterans: "It's mostly me and Johan [Reinholdz, guitarist] and Martin [Brändström, keyboardist], but everybody else is kind of involved during the early process as well." Stanne emphasized the band's signature commitment to quality over speed: "We take our time with it, to make sure that nothing is left to chance — everything is exactly what we want."

Reflecting on where the band stands as artists, Stanne was measured but clearly excited: "I think we know ourselves better as a band now, so I'm pretty sure that's gonna translate into the songwriting."

Endtime Signals, released in August 2024 via Century Media Records, marked DARK TRANQUILLITY's thirteenth studio album and tenth consecutive collaboration with the label. The record received strong critical and fan reception, praised for its confident melodic structures and layered production.

Formed in Gothenburg in 1989, DARK TRANQUILLITY are one of the founding acts of the melodic death metal genre alongside AT THE GATES and IN FLAMES. Unlike many of their peers, the band has maintained exceptional lineup stability and a relentlessly high standard across their entire career.

The forthcoming 14th album will be eagerly anticipated by a fanbase that has followed the band through every evolution — from the raw brutality of The Gallery to the refined modern productions of the 2020s.
