Former NIGHTWISH vocalist TARJA TURUNEN has today released 'Frisson Noir' via earMUSIC — and the album fully delivers on its billing as the heaviest record of her career. Across ten tracks, Tarja channels darkness, emotional weight, and orchestral grandeur into a sound that feels genuinely heavier than anything she has committed to tape before.
The album was mixed by Grammy-winning producer Neal Avron, who has previously worked with LINKIN PARK, SKILLET, and DISTURBED. Tarja has spoken candidly about her long search for a producer who could translate the raw power she felt on stage into a studio setting: "I've been looking for a really heavy sound for my albums. It really now sounds heavy. And it's a result I'm really happy with."
The guest list on 'Frisson Noir' reads like a who's who of the metal world. Dani Filth of CRADLE OF FILTH appears on "I Don't Care" — a bruising collaboration that draws on both artists' taste for the theatrical and extreme. Finnish cello ensemble APOCALYPTICA adds a sweeping orchestral dimension to "Tango". Former NIGHTWISH bassist and vocalist Marko Hietala reunites with Tarja on "Leap Of Faith" — a pairing that will inevitably stir memories of the band's classic era. And veteran drummer Chad Smith, the backbone of Red Hot Chili Peppers, closes the record on "Against The Odds".
