Norwegian folk-rock innovators GÅTE have announced their sixth studio album, "Sigil," set for release September 25 via Season of Mist — the band's first release since signing with the label earlier this year.
Alongside the announcement, GÅTE have shared a music video for lead single "Oskorsreia," a track built around Hardanger fiddle and electric guitar that conjures the Nordic legend of the Wild Hunt, a spectral procession of the dead said to sweep across the landscape, drawing the living into its endless march. The video was filmed over a single night in the forests outside Trondheim, with its imagery of ghouls, blind horses and half-dead figures doubling as a commentary on a modern world driven by consumption and distraction.
"We are dying to immerse people in the soundtrack of 'Oskorsreia,' aka The Wild Hunt, this entourage of ghouls and half-deads, eating, consuming but never to be satiated," the band said. "We played this song live throughout Europe and it is already a live favorite."
"Sigil" was recorded at MagnuStudio and Øra Studio, produced by Kristian Fanavoll Tvedt and Magnus Børmark. According to the band, the album draws on ancient legend and Nordic folk narrative to explore what remains once illusion falls away. An earlier single from the album, "Sannsiger," arrived in April and featured guest vocals from Maria Franz of Season of Mist labelmates HEILUNG.
GÅTE broke through in the early 2000s by fusing Nordic folk tradition with modern rock, and their debut album entered at Number 1 on the Norwegian charts, earning the band a Spellemann Award — the Norwegian equivalent of a Grammy — for Best Newcomer. The band represented Norway at the 2024 Eurovision Song Contest and spent 2025 touring Europe alongside LEPROUS.
GÅTE will support "Sigil" with a ten-date fall tour running October 23 through November 21, covering nine cities across Norway plus a stop in Istanbul, Turkey. The band will also play an acoustic set at Castlefest in the Netherlands on August 1, ahead of the album's release.
With "Sigil," GÅTE continue to carve out one of the more singular spaces in contemporary Nordic music — one where Hardanger fiddle and folk myth sit comfortably alongside modern rock heft, and where a Eurovision stage and a festival mainstage are just two more places to tell the same ancient story.
