Contrary Beliefs (2006)

The third album by these avant-garde Pakistanis(!) has, by and large, only an indirect relation to metal. I'm reviewing this release purely as a nod to their metal past, since the first two albums were doom-death in character.

Now DUSK plays electronic ambient music with a slight touch of industrial. The shift in direction is not entirely clear, but quite explainable. According to available information, instrumentalist Faraz Anwer, who was responsible for the musical component on previous DUSK releases, left the band, and apparently there was no one to replace him other than electronic samples.

Overall, the album's content is maintained in a single meditative, relaxing vein, and its Eastern flavor serves as a distinctive feature. But since I'm neither a fan nor a connoisseur of this kind of music, my subjective opinion should be taken with a grain of salt. And my opinion is that the album is not bad and can be listened to from time to time. That's exactly what I do myself, playing it in the background while going through my evening bedtime routine — it creates a pleasant atmosphere and mood.
