DEATH were an American death metal band from Altamonte Springs, Florida, founded in 1984 by guitarist and vocalist Chuck Schuldiner. Widely regarded as the founding band of death metal — their debut "Scream Bloody Gore" (1987) gave the genre its name — Schuldiner went on to transform death metal into a vehicle for complex, progressive musical expression. Albums like "Human", "Individual Thought Patterns", and "The Sound of Perseverance" are considered among the greatest extreme metal recordings ever made. Schuldiner passed away in 2001, but DEATH's legacy as the most important band in extreme metal history endures absolutely.
