ROY KHAN — the Norwegian vocalist who defined KAMELOT's golden era from 1998 to 2011 and currently fronts CONCEPTION — has confirmed that his debut solo album is in development, with an expected release in early 2027.
The project has a clear creative target: Khan wants to recapture the melodic power metal he helped craft during KAMELOT's peak years. "I'm trying to capture the sound that KAMELOT had while I was in the band," he said in a recent interview, while acknowledging that elements of his work with CONCEPTION will inevitably surface through his vocal approach and lyrical instincts.
Crucially, he's assembled the team to make it happen. Heading production is Sascha Paeth, the architect behind some of KAMELOT's most celebrated albums — The Fourth Legacy, Epica, and The Black Halo — creating an immediate sense of continuity. Joining him as co-producers are Caio Kehyayan of Brazilian power metal band FIREWING and vocalist and multi-instrumentalist ADRIENNE COWAN. Kehyayan will also perform alongside Khan for live shows in support of the record.
Additional songwriting contributions come from Bill Hudson, recognized for his extensive work with the TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA.
At 56, Khan returns to the studio with purpose and clarity. Since his departure from KAMELOT in 2011 — prompted by severe burnout — he regrouped with CONCEPTION, releasing the EP My Dark Symphony in 2018 and full-length State Of Deception in 2020. Now the solo chapter is finally opening.
No album title or tracklist has been announced, but updates are expected later in 2026. For fans of KAMELOT's peak era, this is one of the most anticipated announcements in power metal in years.
