SERJ TANKIAN and TOM MORELLO have released a new collaborative single titled "Adjourn It," marking the latest creative union between the SYSTEM OF A DOWN frontman and the RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE guitarist. The track carries a pointed political message and features an unexpected contribution: the main riff was written by Tom's 15-year-old son, Roman Morello.
The song was inspired by the wave of DHS and ICE immigration raids that swept through Los Angeles earlier in 2026. Morello cited both the urgency of the crisis and his longstanding relationship with Tankian as the driving forces: "What inspired us to create the song together were two things. One is my longstanding relationship with Serj. We've worked on a number of songs through the years."
Tankian framed the track's message in stark terms: "We have to learn how to stand up to fascism in the right way." He pointed to the human toll of the immigration crackdown, noting that 27,000 children have had parents deported — a statistic he describes as a trauma inflicted on the entire nation.
Roman Morello's involvement gives the project an intergenerational dimension. Tom revealed that his teenage son had written the central riff, praising the talent that "felt like they had the Morello DNA." Roman himself expressed feeling "honored to be part of this project" and credited witnessing his father's impact on people as the inspiration for his own musical development.
The music video incorporates footage from the 1954 film Salt of the Earth, which documented the real-life strike of Mexican-American zinc miners in New Mexico — an early landmark of social justice filmmaking that resonates directly with the song's themes.
Morello is set to perform at several European festivals this summer, including Sweden Rock, Rock im Park, and Download Festival, with additional fall dates to follow.
