German melancholic heavy metal quintet THE NIGHT ETERNAL have announced their Metal Blade Records debut album "Cold Velvet," set for release on August 21, 2026. The announcement arrives alongside a new single and official music video for "Where This World Ends."

Founded in 2018, THE NIGHT ETERNAL have spent the intervening years forging one of the more distinctive sounds in the current European heavy metal landscape. Their approach draws deep from the well of '70s and '80s guitar-driven heavy metal — think doom-tinged, atmosphere-heavy, riff-first songwriting — and filters it through a sinister, melancholic sensibility that is entirely their own.

Their previous two albums, "Moonlit Cross" (2021) and "Fatale" (2023), earned enthusiastic responses from fans and critics and opened doors across the European touring circuit. Support slots alongside BLIND GUARDIAN, MICHAEL SCHENKER GROUP, ANGEL WITCH, and LUCIFER gave the band exposure to audiences who clearly responded to what they were doing. Festival appearances at Wacken Open Air, Summer Breeze, Hellfest, and Alcatraz — alongside a coveted slot at Houston's Hell's Heroes — rounded out a trajectory that made a Metal Blade deal feel like a logical step.

With "Cold Velvet," the band has pushed further into their own self-defined space, weaving darkness, dreamlike unease, and deep melancholy into what they describe as a "dramatic yet untainted heavy metal rock 'n' roll attitude." Hypnotic, ritualistic rhythms; mesmeric guitar riffs and melodies; irresistibly catchy choruses — these are the hallmarks that run through every track, drawing the listener inward and releasing a sustained wave of dark energy.

"Where This World Ends" is an effective first statement for where the album is heading: the kind of song that balances atmosphere and momentum, never letting the weight of mood overwhelm the essential pull of a great heavy metal hook. Pre-orders for "Cold Velvet" are available now through Metal Blade Records.
