Italian tech-thrash unit MISCREANCE have released "Oracle's Rift," the second advance single from their upcoming sophomore album, "Reminiscence," due out August 28 via Season Of Mist.
Where MISCREANCE's early material drew easy comparisons to DEATH, SADUS and VOIVOD, "Oracle's Rift" pushes further into disorienting territory, chugging and galloping through steep tempo shifts before opening onto a hidden, ancient world of crystal dripstones and a shadowy, all-knowing entity.
The band described the song as part of a larger conceptual journey undertaken for "Reminiscence." "Through a collective hallucination, a voyage through time led us to discover a moment in human history that was lost," MISCREANCE said of the album's concept. "'Oracle's Rift' takes us to where the skies end. Whirl to the dirge of judgement and walk the path to oblivion."
MISCREANCE first emerged from Italy's underground metal scene four years ago, quickly drawing comparisons to genre forebears DEATH, SADUS and VOIVOD for a technical, tempo-shifting approach that splits the difference between old-school death metal and thrash. "Reminiscence," the band's second album, pushes that foundation into more disorienting territory, threading structural complexity through a lyrical concept built around lost, half-remembered history.
Recorded in Italy, "Reminiscence" traces its concept to that same excavation of a hidden, half-remembered past, filtering old-school technical death metal songwriting through a science-fiction lens the band has described as both futuristic and primitive. "Oracle's Rift" follows lead single "Scalp Ceremony," which arrived alongside the album's initial announcement in June.
