The long-awaited Ozzy Osbourne biopic won't hit theaters until 2028, Jack Osbourne revealed during a May 12 livestream — though he was quick to shut down any notion that the project is in trouble. "This movie will absolutely happen," he stated plainly.
The screenplay — penned by Lee Hall, who previously wrote the Elton John biopic Rocketman — is already finished. The team is now focused on attaching a director. Sony Pictures and Polygram Entertainment are producing the film, with Sharon, Jack, and Aimée Osbourne all serving as producers.
The biopic has undergone a meaningful scope adjustment since it was first announced. Originally conceived to cover Ozzy's life from his Birmingham childhood through the mid-1990s, the current version tightens its focus onto the tail end of BLACK SABBATH, Ozzy's transition to a solo career, and the pivotal early 1980s — including the tragic death of guitarist Randy Rhoads.
Jack revealed that a "phenomenal" actor has already been locked in for the title role, though he declined to name the person. Sharon had previously floated the idea of Florence Pugh or a "Game of Thrones" actress to portray her.
The news comes after Ozzy's death on July 22, 2025, at age 76 — the passing of one of heavy metal's true architects, whose journey from a Midlands working-class background to the summit of rock stardom with BLACK SABBATH, and his subsequent decades-long solo career, remains one of music's most extraordinary stories.
